Smart City project initiative still top agenda for New Delhi Municipal Council

For the third consecutive year the New Delhi Municipal Council's (NDMC) annual budget will focus on the 'Smart City' project. NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar on Tuesday presented a surplus budget with revenues estimated at Rs 4,172.34 crores against the estimated expenditure of Rs 4,144.53 crores, where the council has dedicated Rs 50 crores for the Smart City project.

In order to utilise the said budget the Council had proposed to install 625 panic buttons and 625 public addressing systems on the smart poles. The aim of installation of panic button is to help the public to contact command centre during emergency.

The poles will be installed in parks and various places. It will also be equipped with a camera to make sure that the control command room can monitor the situation.

Making sure that the residents use an environment-friendly medium of transport, the council has decided to introduce a public sharing e-scooter scheme in the 2019-20, in order to provide a low-cost flexible and environmental friendly system of personalised public transport. Under this project, 1000 e-Scooters spread over 100 stations have been proposed.

Moreover, the council is aiming to apply for the seven-star rating in terms of the garbage-free city for the purpose the Kumar, proposed to install 100 underground bins at various locations in New Delhi area during the year 2019-20. Around 20 such smart underground bins, waste collection system had already been successfully commissioned.

NDMC has also proposed five static compactors at locations, where the generation of garbage is more than three metric tonne per day and underground bins will be installed to make NDMC area a bin-free city.

The council will also introduce the NDMC's cable TV facility where the already existing high speed broadband services on Fiber To The Home (FTTH) will allow the council to offer Cable TV services.

Digital syllabus on the anvil:

With 5% of the budget kept for education sector, NDMC plans to develop education system with smarter technology, but keeping the sustainable environment in mind. The council will now be converting all primary classes into smart classes with cameras and digital curriculum. Wifi enabled tablet based classrooms in secondary and senior secondary school will arranged. Safety buttons will be installed for students security in schools. However, nature classroom remains highlight of the budget, classes will conduct it in open area under the tress. 

Advance eye care, physio centre: 

The Charak Palika Hospital will be equipped with advance eye and physiotherapy centre. Along with setting up of pulmonary function test laboratory for basic investigation of chest diseases, with sleep apnoea laboratory to conduct sleep study evaluation. The chairman of the council also announced MoU with government of India to provide free health services in Charak Palika and Palika maternity hospitals under Aayushmann Bharat scheme. The free of cost services will remain open for patients coming for another cities or zones. 

Development of Happiness Areas: 

The council will be developing happiness areas. The council has brought up the Rajpath development plan, where NDMC has requested to redevelop the central visit area of Rajpath into world class boulevard. The plan is to have fountain and a water body along with the heritage themed lights and parking space for a thousand cars. The plan is also to develop C-Hexagon and Shantipath as world class public space. The round-abouts in the NDMC will also be beautified. 

Celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi: 

To celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the council will provide financial assistance to girl children of sanitation workers, gardeners and laborers for skill training. Moreover the girl child of these workers will be provided monthly scholarship if she secures 60 percent or more in her tenth standard, the scholarship will continue for two years. For the housing benefits the council will construct type-II municipal housing at Sarai Kale Khan. Three acres of land will be used for the same.
