Six injured after sand container falls on cab in South-West Delhi

Police says that all the six are undergoing treatment at Medanta & ISIC Hospital and their condition is said to be stable

Six people, including five members of a family, were injured after a container of a dumper loaded with sand fell on the cab they were travelling during the early hours of Wednesday morning on NH-8 main road near Rangpuri Village of South-West Delhi. Police said that all the six are undergoing treatment at Medanta & ISIC Hospital and their condition is said to be stable.

According to the police, the victims have been identified as Mohd. Umar (25) the cab driver, Sanjay Kumar (38), Dukhi Mehto (77), Parmeshwari Devi (75), Akhilesh (26), Sunita (46). They had booked a cab to go back home from New Delhi Railway station to Kapashera Village at around 5 am.

"When the cab reached near Rangpuri, a traffic cop signalled the cab driver to stop for checking. When he slowed down, a speeding dumper from behind hit the cab and the container of the dumper toppled on the cab. The cab was filled with sand," said a senior police officer.

Following the accident, the locals came forward to help and a crane was also called in by the police to rescue the victims.

"After a rescue operation, which lasted for almost 2 hours, all the victims were rescued and rushed to the Medanta & ISIC Hospital. However, after first aid, the cab driver was discharged while the other five are undergoing treatment. The condition of all the five is stable and they have been kept under observation," said a senior police officer.

Following the accident, there was a long traffic jam on the road that which was heading to Gurugram and commuters were struck for almost 2 hours.
