The much-awaited Signature Bridge, which will connect the north-eastern and northern parts of the national Capital, will be open for the public from November 4. A day before the inauguration ceremony, political jibes were exchanged between the AAP government and the BJP. Manoj Tiwari, who is a member of the Parliament from north-east constituency has not been invited to the ceremony.
Tiwari took onto twitter and said, "I will reach the Signature bridge around 3 pm, which also falls in my constituency. When the Delhi CM, who is out on bail, will come to inaugurate the bridge after his travel from Haryana, I will receive him. It is shameful that the 675 metres long bridge took 15 years to complete and 1500 crores of rupees which is highly shameful. This is much needed for the citizens of the National Capital."
The bridge, built over the Yamuna River, will be the first asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge in India. The bridge also includes a glass-steel observation deck at the top of the bride, although it will not be available for public use for at least another three months, according to media reports. The deck offers a panoramic view of the city.
The project was announced in 2004, although a number of delays and budget modifications led to the project being delayed several times. The 575-metre bride will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on November 4, following which, it will be open for public use.
Deputy Chief minister Manish Sisodia on the other hand tweeted that "All citizens of delhi are invited and even you are. The bridge might be an embarrassment for BJP but it's a moment of pride for Delhi. Hope you will come and maintain the dignity of the proud occasion," tweeted Sisodia.
