With rising cases of illegal parking and one-way violations, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia directed authorities to develop safe selfie points and install permanent lighting equipment on the bridge so that it will be illuminated throughout the year, instead of its present temporary illumination.
53 cases of illegal parking and 24 one-way violations have already been recorded within two days. It has become a favoured spot for the selfie and stunt-loving youth.
In his note to the additional chief secretary (PWD), tourism secretary and DTTDC's managing director, Sisodia said a parking facility and a children's park will also be developed near the bridge to make sure that the tourism gets a boost, without creating any traffic snarls on the bridge.
"The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) and the PWD have been successful in making the bridge operational and it is necessary for both these agencies to work towards making the bridge a major tourist attraction in Delhi," Sisodia said in the note.
The Deputy Chief Minister also asked the authorities to make sure there are proper selfie zones on the bridge which can allow safe places for the youth to capture themselves with the iconic bridge.
The iconic bridge which was inaugurated by the CM Arvind Kejriwal has witnessed several cases of youth stopping cars and bikes midway to get a selfie, which has invited accident cases on the bridge.
