Delhi Metro is set to give Diwali gift to Delhiites with the Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri metro section of its Pink Line getting a go-ahead from the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), SK Pathak. The approval comes close on the heels of an inspection held on October 20 to assess the rail on various safety measures.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, however, clarified that the exact date of the inauguration of the services along the 17.8 km long section will be announced only after the fulfillment of some more formalities.

The CMRS, S K Pathak, has accorded approval to the Shiv Vihar- Trilokpuri section of Delhi Metro's Pink Line after an inspection on October 20. However, the approval is subject to fulfilment of certain stipulations and formalities. The exact date of the opening of this section will be intimated after the fulfilment of these requirements,"an official from DMRC said.

The 17.86 kilometre-long elevated section has 15 elevated stations — Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake, East Vinod Nagar-Mayur Vihar-II , Mandawali-West Vinod Nagar, IP Extension, Anand Vihar ISBT, Karkardooma, Karkardooma Court, Krishna Nagar, East Azad Nagar, Welcome, Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar. The highlight of the section will be the presence of three interchange stations — Anand Vihar (with Blue Line), Karkardooma (with Blue Line) and Welcome (with Red Line).

The new section will boost connectivity to northeast parts of the city which includes areas like Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave among others. Another advantage is that take the Blue Line from Karkardooma to reach Noida and Ghaziabad instead of the long detour of first getting down at Kashmere Gate and then Rajiv Chowk. Once this section gets opened, the Delhi Metro network will become 314 (313.86) kilometres long.
