Residents of Greater Kailash-II were in for a pleasant surprise on Wednesday morning when former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor accompanied them during their morning walk and discussed various civic issues with them.

Taking the momentum of municipal elections to another level, Delhi Congress on Wednesday brought in Tharoor for its ongoing programme'Dilli ki baat, Dil ke saath'.

While walking with the residents, Tharoor expressed his dissatisfaction with the appalling state of affairs in civic schools under the BJP-ruled corporation. "I am extremely saddened to note that no MCD school has initiated Computer Education yet, and a large number of schools do not even have basic facilities of benches and tables," he said.

Residents also opened up and raised various issues. "We should have proper drainage system in our area. Also, the MCD schools really need some improvement," said Sushant Singh, one of the residents who walked with the former minister at the Jahanpana forest park.

Tharoor also talked about forming an expert group to improve education in MCD schools. "A group of persons having national and international experience should be called in to revolutionise education in MCD schools," he added.

Quoting the Delhi Statistical Survey 2030, Tharoor also sought a response from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as to how, under his government, almost 1 lakh students quit school.

The Grand Old Party will have other senior leaders such as P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, and Digvijay Singh join the programme.
