The Special cell of Delhi Police have arrested a sharpshooter of Neetu Daboda gang after a brief encounter in East Delhi's Ghazipur area on Sunday morning. During the encounter the accused had received bullet injuries while one of his associate managed to flee from the spot.

According to the police, the arrested accused has been identified as Vinod (40) a sharp shooter of Neetu Daboda gang while the other who managed to escape was identified as Ashok Pradhan, carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh from Delhi and Haryana police.

"We had got a tip off that the two would come to the area in the wee hours following which a trap was laid at paper market in Gazipur. The duo were intercepted and were asked to surrender but the they opened fire at the police team," said Pramod Kushwah, Deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell).

In retaliation the police fired at them and following a brief encounter, Vinod was arrested while Pradhan managed to escape taking advantage of darkness.

"During the encounter, Vinod had received bullet injury in his left leg and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. During interrogation, it was revealed that Pradhan and Vinod were planning to avenge the murder of Pradhan's brother by eliminating gang members of Neeraj Bawana for which Vinod had procured weapons from Madhya Pradesh," said Kushwah.

Police have recovered one semi automatic pistol along with six live cartridges from vinod's possession. He is previously involved in more than a dozen cases of murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery, assault intimidation and theft in Delhi, Haryana and UP.

Police said that recently Vinod along with his five other associates from UP and Haryana had planned to abduct a cloth merchant of Agra for a ransom money of Rs. 10 crores, however the plan foiled as his associates were nabbed by Agra police on Thursday.

Kushwah further said that they have formed teams to nab the other members of the gang.
