Seven people were injured after a private bus overturned in Delhi’s Alipur area on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations revealed the driver of the bus lost control after a motor-cycle came in front of it.
The incident took place around 6 am. The bus was coming from Amritsar, Punjab and headed towards Patel Nagar in Central Delhi. The bus was carrying around 60 passengers, out of which seven sustained injuries.
“While six received minor injuries and were discharged after first aid; one sustained serious injuries and had to be admitted to a nearby hospital,” said a police officer.
The injured persons were rushed to Satyavadi Raja Harishchandra Hospital. There was chaos and traffic jams on the road and a crane was called in to remove the bus.
The police officials initially thought the bus driver slept off. But investigating officials said the bus had overturned after the driver lost control and it jumped on the divider.
Some passengers got out through the broken windshield while others jumped out of windows.
A case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Alipur police station. Investigations are under way.
