Seven people have been arrested for allegedly killing a 21-year-old man in Vijay Nagar, from a cluster area on Thursday morning. The police said that the victim, Harsh Chauhan, a second-year BCom student, was allegedly shot and killed on the night of June 19 at the Samrat Chowk area in Vijay Nagar.

According to the police, the seven accused have been identified as Todi alias Sandeep, Akram alias Guddu, Shoaib alias Neta, Raju, Ankit alias Jazvi, Chandan alias Bittu and Kalu, all residents of the cluster area of Vijaynagar, while another accused Golu alias Madari is absconding. Teams have been formed to nab him.

"Since the murder took place, we had formed teams to nab the unidentified accused. We gathered information and on Thursday morning, a team raided the cluster area and apprehended seven people," said Akash Tomar, Superintendent Of Police Ghaziabad (city).

During the interrogation, the accused revealed that the murder was a fallout of a fight that took place between Harsh and the accused.

"On Tuesday night, Todi asked Harsh and his friend why they were sitting at the park. The question enraged Harsh and he allegedly slapped Todi four-five times. Then Todi called his other associates from the jhuggi clusters. The accused beat up Harsh with belts and sticks and thereafter Sandeep, Akram and Golu fired at him. A bullet hit him and he fell down while all the accused fled the spot," said Tomar.

Harsh was rushed to a local hospital from where he was referred to the Yashoda Hospital in Nehru Nagar, where he was declared brought dead on arrival. He had succumbed to the single gunshot wound on the left side of his chest, the police said.

His family had alleged that a group of men surrounded Harsh and shot him probably mistaking him to be a member of their rival gang.

The police have recovered two country-made pistols and cartridges —two spent and two live.
