Senior citizen rescues wife from robbers

A senior citizen showed exemplary courage while running after two robbers, who tried to snatch the earrings of his wife while they were out for a morning walk in Delhi’s North-East Karawal Nagar area. The Delhi Police later awarded the senior citizen couple with a commendation certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1,000.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 6:30 am on Friday, when Ravindra Pathak (63), a retired DDA gardener was on a morning walk along with his wife Bhawani. While they were walking near Lakhpath School on the Karawal Nagar road, Bhawani was walking ahead of her husband. The entire incident was also captured on the CCTV of one shop on the road. 

In the CCTV footage, the two robbers on a motorcycle can be seen slowing down as they approach the woman. The pillion rider, then, forcibly snatches her earrings. Pathak on seeing this runs behind them and catches the pillion rider from behind.

“The robber who was riding the motorcycle tried to flee but an unknown autorickshaw driver came in the way of the motorcycle. The earrings were, meanwhile, passed onto another unknown person. The accused have been identified as Javed and Aarif.
