Second time in a row, govt schools outperform private ones

The government schools in the national Capital outperformed the private ones in the CBSE Class XII examination, second time in a row. The pass percentage gap between the two, which was 2 per cent till last year, has gone up to 9 per cent this time.

"The Delhi government schools' pass percentage is 88.27 per cent, while it is 79.27 per cent for private schools," CBSE officials said.

Hailing students for this achievement, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia said:"Children studying in government and private schools are both ours. But it is a moment of pride that children studying in Delhi's government schools are performing so much better than private school students. This remarkable result has been achieved despite the fact that this year, we prevented cheating in a big way."

According to the Delhi government officials, their premier Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas (RPVVs) have outperformed the Central government's Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs). RPVVs pass percentage is 99.7 per cent and that of KVs is 94.6 per cent.

"As many as 33 students have scored a perfect 100 in one or more subjects. The number of schools that have a pass percentage of more than 90 per cent has gone up from 547 to 554 this year," a government official said.

Vikas Upadhyay of the Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas, Yamuna Vihar, stood out to be the topper with 97 per cent. The science student scored 485 out of 500 marks.

The national Capital secured third rank in the region-wise result, with Trivandrum and Chennai topping the tally. This is the second year in a row that the government schools have performed better than the private schools. The Deputy Chief Minister, meanwhile, announced that toppers from all schools and streams will be felicitated.
