SDMC seals 16 properties for 'misuse', 'unauthorised construction'

Continuing the sealing drive, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday locked 16 properties in Mayapuri and Tilak Nagar. The properties sealed for "misuse" and "unauthourised constructions" included Honda Car Showroom, Pind Baluchi Restaurant and Revive Hospital, among others.

"As per directions of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee, sealing action was taken at various places and markets, by the building department of West Zone, SDMC. The action was taken against unauthorised properties/misuse of the properties."

At C-10, Mayapuri, the basement of the Honda Car showroom was sealed. Further, at Tilak Nagar, Revive Hospital, commercial activity was found to be going on in the stilt area and other two points; one in the back and another in the front, both of which were sealed.

According to the civic officials, in Tilak Nagar, at the Pind Baluchi Restaurant, three points were sealed in the basement.

"An entire building being illegally constructed at JJ Colony Chaukhandi was sealed at three points. At Harijan Basti, Tilak Nagar, first floor of an unauthorised construction property was sealed at one point," the officer said.

The North Corporation too sealed 60 properties in a number of areas, including Azad Market, Shalimar Bagh, Rana Pratap Bagh, Old Rajendra Nagar and Malka Ganj.

The SDMC had on Tuesday also sealed upper floors and basements of 38 commercial establishments in the popular Hauz Khas Market.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) had called a citywide 'bandh' on Tuesday, in which over 350 major markets remained shut to protest the sealing drive.

All the major markets, including Chandni Chowk, South Extension - I and II, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Kamla Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Greater Kailash, and Defence Colony, among others, observed the bandh.
