Adding to the woes of parents applying for their kids' nursery admission, a few schools have further complicated the neighbourhood criterion by issuing their own rules regarding the distance.

DAV Public School in Rohini Sector 7 has started a point-based system. The school will award 70 points to kids residing in 0-1 km radius and 30 points to those who have siblings in the school. Students living in the 1-3km range and 3-6 km range would be given 60 and 50 points, respectively.

"The point system is partial. If a candidate living in the 1-3 km radius has a sibling in the same school, his points will add up to 90, much more than a student living in the 0-1 km range.

Similarly, a child living in the 3-6 km range and having a sibling will be given more weightage as his points will be 80, in comparison to candidates in the 0-1 km range," said Sumit Vohra, Founder of admissionnursery.com.

Similarly, the Heritage School in Vasant Kunj has no clarity regarding how the distance from the house to the school will be measured. "The school has not mentioned whether they are taking the road route or the aerial route," Vohra said.

The Venketeshwara International School in Dwarka Sector 10 is asking parents to tell the distance, leaving them worried as they have no idea how to measure the distance. "I don't know whether to calculate it through the aerial route or road route," said a parent, requesting anonymity.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) had issued guidelines for 298 schools operating on the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) land, with major emphasis on the neighbourhood criterion. According to the guidelines, priority would be given to students living within a range of 0-1 km and having a sibling in the school.
