As many as two dozen people from Rohtak arrived at the AIIMS Trauma Centre mortuary to claim the body of their 'beloved son' Sanjeet Vidrohi, who was shot dead in the encounter on Saturday afternoon by a team of officers of Special Cell.

Vidrohi's elder brother Manjeet, who is an officer with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), wipes his tears as he walks out of the mortuary. His cousins said that Bharti's gang was only working because of Vidrohi and the death of any person --- whether a criminal or a normal person --- is a deep loss. Family members alleged that the encounter was 'staged' and that the police could have given him a chance.

Manjeet entered the mortuary just after noon. He was accompanied by around 15 -20 others from Rohtak, the residence of Vidrohi. As they waited outside the mortuary for the policemen to come, an officer arrived and said that only two would be allowed to enter and see the body.

Minutes later Manjeet walked out of the mortuary with tears rolling down his cheeks. His cousin held his left hand and Manjeet kept on wiping his dripping tears as he walked away to complete the hospital formalities. Vidrohis' mother hadn't been told of her son's death and has been told not believe any media report about her son.

One of Delhi's most-notorious gangsters who carried a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, Rajesh Bharti was among the four criminals killed after a shoot-out in south Delhi's Chattarpur area on Saturday. Eight policemen were wounded in the operation which ended with the death of Rajesh Bharti.

Speaking to DNA his cousin Sahil Chikkara said,"Vidrohi was a fearless man, not from now but since his childhood. He was loved by the entire neighbourhood for what he was. He had only one aim in his life "to make a name for himself, which he did. He did not care if he was famous or infamous. Bharti was elder to him and it was Vidrohi who was actually leading the gang being one of his best sharpshooters and his right-hand man. But, two years ago his family had disowned him for his refusal to leave the criminal world."

The family members also said that the encounter was staged. "The area where the encounter took place has several farmhouses which have CCTV cameras, but only the spot where they were killed had no CCTV cameras. The police officials should have given them a chance to surrender at least," said Chikkara.
