Barun Thakur, father of the seven-year-old child who was murdered inside the toilet of Gurugram's Ryan International School, expressed his gratitude for the Haryana government on Friday for transferring the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He, however, added that the fight was not yet over and there was a long way to go.

Meanwhile, the lawyer of accused conductor Ashok Kumar said that he was tortured by the police and forced to confess to the crime.

Talking to DNA, Thakur said the case required a thorough CBI investigation. "The journey does not end here. Now, our main aim is to get a permanent solution for safety of children in schools," said Thakur, whose 11-year-old studies at the same school.

He further said it was a fight with the system to ensure stringent rules regarding the matter. "There should be a designated body to monitor safety of children at schools. The school has been shut ever since the incident," Thakur added.

At the same time, accused Kumar's lawyer Mohit Verma said that the conductor was being framed. "The police officers fabricated the evidence. Kumar was tortured and given electric shocks in the custody. The police officers also sedated him with injections," Verma said.

He further said the school authorities told Kumar to pick up the child and take him to the school van. The conductor was also threatened with dire consequences for himself and his family, if he did not confess to the crime.

When queried about the defence lawyer's statement, Thakur said: "There are many contradictory statements. Every aspect of the case needs to be analysed."

Meanwhile, a police team that was in Mumbai for investigation will be returning soon.
