Four armed assailants barged into the dispatch centre of e-commerce giant Flipkart in Shahdara's Jhilmil Industrial area on Sunday night and decamped with Rs 37 lakh in cash.

According to the police, the incident was reported at 8.40 pm on Sunday. The dispatch centre was about to be shut when four armed men in helmets entered the warehouse, where six employees were present at the time. The assailants held the employees hostage at gunpoint and ordered them to hand over the money.

One of the security guards, identified as Naveen Kapoor, tried to intervene but was hit on the head with the butt of a gun. The employees told the police that they were moving the cash to the main locker at the time of the incident.

"While leaving the Flipkart centre, the robbers took along the DVR that had the CCTV footage. The police are now examining the footage from the nearby areas to identity them. A case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Shahdara, Nupur Prasad, said.

Ramu Kushwaha, who works as a cashier in the office, gave details about the robbery to the police.

The cops are also questioning the employees to ascertain whether they had any role to play in the robbery, or whether any employee was recently fired from the company and might be holding grudges.

Earlier in March, around half a dozen men had robbed a Flipkart warehouse in Patparganj and made away with Rs 20 lakh. Some former employees were found to be involved in the matter.
