Rohini: Man intervenes in a fight, stabbed to death

A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death when he tried to intervene in a fight between a paan shop owner and three men in Rohini area during the early hours of Saturday. The accused, including a cop's son, have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to the police , the victim has been identified as Rajat Chaudhary, who ran a mobile repairing shop, and the accused have been identified as Gaurav, Sachin and Prince who were arrested on Saturday evening.

A senior police officer said that the incident was reported around 1 am by the hospital where the victim was rushed. When the police reached the spot, they were informed that the accused had come to the paan shop owned by one Vipin. "It was informed that the accused were drinking in their car and the pan shop owner had shut his shop. The accused asked him to open which he refused. The accused then thrashed him and snatched his mobile phone. They also took his scooter's keys," the officer said.

Meanwhile, Rajat was passing by with his friends to get get cold drinks after dinner when the pan shop owner ran towards him and sought his help. He told them what the accused were doing after which Rajat intervened and asked them to back off. "An argument ensued between Rajat and Gaurav during which Gaurav pulled out a knife and stabbed Rajat," the officer said.

The accused allegedly boasted of their contacts and fled the spot. Rajat's friends rushed him to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead. His family members and relatives also staged a protest on Saturday.

The accused were traced and arrested by Saturday evening. Gaurav is son of a police officer poster in North West district.
