A driver with cab aggregator company was shot dead by three unidentified men barely 500 metre from the police station in South Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur area late on Saturday night.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when the deceased, Umesh, was talking to his friend while his car was parked nearby, the police said. It is suspected that the accused persons' car accidentally brushed past Umesh's. This led to the argument during which the accused pulled the trigger.

The 40-year-old deceased lived with his family in the Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi. He worked as a driver with Uber. A PCR call was made to the police late on Saturday after which they rushed to the spot on the Gurudwara Road. "The deceased was taken to the hospital where he died," the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar said that investigations into the case are on and they have learnt that three persons were involved. "Three to four persons been suspected and we are investigating the case from all angles, including that of a road rage gone wrong. Teams have been formed to nab the suspects and their probable locations are being tracked even as the car used by them have been identified," said the DCP. The officer also added that CCTV camera footages in and around the scene of the murder are being scanned to understand the sequence of events and to ascertain if the eyewitness's account corroborates with what actually happened.

The police said that according to an eyewitness, who happens to "He (the friend of the deceased) told us that the fight started as there wasn't enough space for the accused's' car to pass by and then the mirror touched and this led to a heated argument after which one of the accused took out the pistol and shot Umesh. After committing the crime, they fled the spot," the police said.

A case under sections 302 (Punishment for murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, the police said.

NCR ON THE BOIL

On August 21, a car being driven by a 23-year-old brushed past another being driven by a doctor working in a Noida-based private hospital in the Lajpat Nagar area. The accused owns a chain of restaurants and pubs. As the two cars touched each other, the men got into an argument. The accused threatened the doctor with a pistol, following which the latter made a PCR call.

On August 21, Two students were arrested for allegedly thrashing two girls after their car allegedly brushed past the scooty the girls were riding in Sector 62 area of Noida. The accused were arrested from the spot, the police said.

On July 1, a 35-year-old man was shot dead while two others occupants of a car were injured by two unidentified bike-borne miscreants after a heated argument between them over rash driving in Ghaziabad. According to the police, the deceased was returning home with 2 other persons in his car. When the car reached the Tulsi Niketan area, two bike-borne miscreants allegedly overtook their car and stopped it and an argument ensued and then fired the shots.

On May 18, an 18-year-old Delhi University student, resident of North West Delhi's Krishna Enclave, was brutally beaten up by a family including a woman in Bharat Nagar area. The victim alleged that the road was blocked by two cars and he was giving way to another car when a woman driver shouted at him. As he responded, a male sitting next to her told him to talk to her properly after which an argument broke out. The woman and her family members then thrashed the student, allegedly tried to strangulate him and used an iron rod as well.

On February 6, a businessman lost his life after a minor early morning brawl on turned fatal on Delhi’s Bhalswa Flyover. The deceased’s car was overtaken by a van. An argument ensued and one of the occupants of the other vehicle came out and fired one shot at the businessman. The bullet pierced his left side of the chest just below the heart.
