Mourning the loss of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Delhi wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party said that his demise was a loss not only for the party but the country collectively. The local unit also hailed the stalwart for the schemes launched by him during his tenure as PM, including Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan and Gramin Sadak Yojna.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari praised him as a man of extraordinary character who remained 'atal' through all the difficulties he encountered during his political career. "He was a class apart, made of grit. Had he been a common man, he would have wobbled through tough paths," he stated. "He was a jan nayak, who touched the hearts of millions of people. Even his rivals were bowled over by his excellent oratory skills. He was a brilliant opposition leader and exceptional as Prime Minister," the BJP leader said. About his demise, he said it was a shock Indians and India will take a long time to recover from.

"From forming Jan Sangha with Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherji to starting BJP after ideological differences with Morarji Desai, Atalji took decisions with an iron will, which helped him sit on the highest position of Prime Ministers," Tiwari said.

"This determination led to the first non-Congress government at the Centre with Vajpayee at the helm from 1999 to 2004. He was an exemplary PM who made India a nuclear state with the help of another gem, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam," the MP said. "He regaled millions of citizens and hundreds of leaders cutting across party lines with his wit and poetry. It is a vacuum which will never be filled," Tiwari said.
