Resident doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi Super-specialty Hospital (RGSSH) went on a token strike on Monday, demanding the implementation of the seventh Central Pay Commission (CPC), which has been implemented at other government hospitals in the Capital. The strike affected patient care at the hospital as all the Out-Patient Department (OPD) remained closed and patients were turned down for routine check-ups while the emergency services remained open.

"We had sent a file to the ministry, but due to some calculation error, it was returned to us. We are closely working on getting this implemented and should be done by this week," said Dr B L Sherwal, Medical Director, Rajiv Gandhi Super-specialty Hospital.

"The strike affected patient care as over 25 resident doctors were not working. We have had a discussion with them and they will be at work tomorrow. Our Deputy Medical Superintendent even went to the ministry today to get this resolved on priority," he added.

Late last year, over 1,700 doctors at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had gone on a three-day hunger strike for the implementation of the seventh CPC, while another 14,000 employees had agreed to join.
