Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury said that she will soon file a case against Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for tweeting a video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's sarcastic jibe on her during a Parliament proceeding in February, as she finds it "derogatory" under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), on Tuesday.
Speaking during a conclave on Indian politics at Amity University, she said, "I will soon file a case against Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for uploading the video of the incident which I find derogatory under IPC sections for deliberating her status as a woman in society." Rijiju had posted a video of Modi's jibe of equating her to Supranakha on his Twitter handle on February 7.
Chowdhury also raised concerns over the ongoing issue of triple talaq and polygamy and termed the practices as "inhuman act of tarnishing the life of a woman". She also slammed the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) for opposing a ban on triple talaq ban and nikah halala and called upon the judiciary to have stricter laws in favour of women. "Just by jailing the accused for three years for divorcing his wife through the utterance of triple talaq is not enough since she is still not entitled to complete empowerment and such practices should be completely prohibited," she said.
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury said that politicians are one of the pillars of democracy same as legal professionals who are expected to impart justice while addressing the issues that are required to keep the country in right direction.
