Copies of the letter have been sent to the President, Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
In a letter addressed to the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, several individuals and activists from various Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) and NGOs have offered to mediate between the two parties.
"As concerned and aware residents of the city and being selflessly involved in matters relating to civic governance, we the conglomerate of various RWAs, NGOs, and activists from all across Delhi-NCR have a fair understanding of what the true picture and see beyond politics. While we do not doubt either of your intentions or your concern for the Capital city, someone has to intervene/mediate in whose presence you could place your respective grievances," reads an extract from the letter.
Copies of the letter have been sent to the President, Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. There are 11 signatories to the letter including prominent names such as Anil Sood of CHETNA (NGO), Chetan Sharma of CONRWA Pankaj Agarwal of the Delhi RWA's Joint Front; Rejimon, Dwarka Forum, and BS Vohra of the East Delhi RWAs Joint Front, among others.
It is evident that in this 'Dharna vs Dharna' politics, it is ultimately the Delhiites who are suffering. With Delhi is choking from pollution and people are suffering because of the lack of potable water, people see a great opportunity in such a peace offering christened as 'Save Our City' campaign to tackle this de facto situation.
However, the crisis is grimmer than it looks on the surface. The letter highlights problems such as Haryana's requirement to first withdraw court cases before releasing water to Delhi; upkeep of schools being ignored; the statehood of Delhi; civic and health infrastructure, etc.
