While encroached footpaths, e-rickshaws and illegal parking are reasons that one of the oldest markets in Delhi has been experiencing loss of customers and traders, there is also an unorganised redevelopment process to blame for the same.

The traders blame that due to the redevelopment process the road from Red Fort to the Fatehpuri has been dug up, but according to several traders dividing cuts placed far away has forced pedestrians to walk for long distance just to cross the road.

This move has been reflecting upon the revenues of the traders who allege that the redevelopment process has adversely hindered the sales on their outlets.

"Every year there are few months for us to collect revenues. The wedding season brings the majority of sales but the redevelopment process has made it difficult for the customers to reach our shops," said Vinayak Patwal, a shopkeeper in Chandni Chowk's Kinari market.

However, apart from the traders the pedestrians also raised their concerns about the way the redevelopment process has been going on.

Many complained that construction work has led to frequent traffic congestions and they had to wait in the traffic for hours to cover some meters. The most affected have been the Nayi Sadak visitors since the road was already facing traffic issues due to the influx of commercial mini tempos which make it difficult for two-wheelers and rickshaws to pass.
