Bilal Ahmad Kawa, allegedly involved in the 2000 Red Fort terror attack, was receiving hawala money from Pakistan, which was used in the attack along with terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the police informed a city court on Thursday, which sent him to a 10-day police custody.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM), Deepak Sehrawat held that"there are sufficient grounds for grant of 10-days PC remand" to the accused.
Kawa was arrested on Wednesday in a joint operation of the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and Special Cell of the Delhi Police from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for allegedly being the key conspirator in the terror attack at Red Fort in 2000.
The court noted the submissions made by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and said,"The accused has (played) the main role and participated in the offence by receiving money from Pakistan and other countries through hawala operators, which was used in the attack and other terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir conducted by the LeT."
The police also informed the court that Kawa was absconding for 17 years and was also declared a proclaimed offender by a court earlier.
"He is needed for thorough interrogation and details of his associates need to be extracted from him, which requires lot of time," the police said, adding that the remand of the accused is necessary as he has to be taken to Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and other places for investigation and apprehension of his associates.
Three people, including two Army jawans, were killed in the December 22, 2000, Red Fort attack. In 2005, a trial court had awarded death sentence to Pakistan-based LeT terrorist Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq, while two key conspirators -- Nazir Ahmed Qasid and his son Farooq Ahmed Qasid -- were awarded life imprisonment.
‘KEY CONSPIRATOR’
- Kawa was arrested on Wednesday from the Indira Gandhi International Airport on charges of being the key conspirator in the terror attack at the Red Fort in 2000.
