The Greater Noida Police on Monday registered a case against real estate giant Supertech Limited for negligence, after a portion of a ceiling in one of its flats fell on Sunday, injuring a resident, Mohit Mishra.

Mishra, 32, had taken the one BHK apartment in the Eco Village, Noida Extension, on rent in October last year. He was sleeping in the bedroom on Sunday morning when a three-foot piece of plaster fell from the ceiling, injuring his arms. His wife and child also live in the same flat but had gone to their native town, Agra, at the time of the incident.

Mishra then informed the flat owner, who decided to lodge a police complaint against the builder. A team of police arrived at the spot shortly. Meanwhile, some of the neighbours who had gathered there said that a similar case had happened in another Supertech project, Cape Town, last year.

The residents demanded a thorough check of the building. They also slammed the Greater Noida Authority, which gives completion certificates to construction projects. The Noida Extension Flat Owners and Members Association (NEFOMA) further demanded that the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government direct the authorities to check the construction quality of all the flats in the area.

When queried, Supertech Limited CMD RK Arora told DNA that the incident was unfortunate. "The group will fully cooperate with the police in the investigation. We have constituted an internal fact-finding panel as well," he said.

Bisrakh SHO Vinod Pandey confirmed to DNA that he has received a written complaint into the matter. "We have lodged an FIR against the developer under appropriate sections. A team has been formed to investigate the matter from all angles," he said.
