Rain god finally smiled at the city as heavy rain lashed Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday, bringing much needed relief from the sultry and humid weather in the past more than a week. The temperature came down to 27.8 degrees Celsius, one notch above season's average. However, the sudden downpour led to severe waterlogging in many parts of the Capital, slowing down traffic and bringing Delhi to a halt.

Delhi secretariat was also filled with water within minutes of the rainfall because of leakage inside the building, bringing embarrassment to the Kejriwal government. The road outside civil secretariat was also flooded with water. A bus submerged at Minto Road due to heavily waterlogging.

Overcast sky in the morning was followed by heavy rain and gusty winds in the afternoon. Prominent roads like ITO, Chirag Delhi, Mathura Road, Airport Road, Moolchand underpass, Aurobindo Marg were waterlogged due to the rain that lasted for an hour. The ill-preparedness of municipal corporation viz desilting drains, came to fore on Friday afternoon. ITO was completely choked with traffic as vehicles moved at painfully slow speed due to rain and accumulation of water, causing chaos around 5 pm when government offices were calling it a day.

Other roads that witnessed traffic snarls were Gurugram-Delhi highway, Dhaula Kuan, Noida Expressway, DND, Mayapuri flyover, Naraina flyover. Central Delhi too fared poorly as reports of waterlogging poured in from Akbar Road and Pancharipuri as well. People also complained of massive jam on Gurugram road towards Delhi with peak hours adding to the woes. Low lying areas of Delhi like Azadpur, Meet Nagar were completely submerged.
