Rain, dust storm hit National Capital

A dust storm, with winds gusting up to 70 kmph, hit the national capital on Saturday evening, bringing some relief from the searing heat. The weatherman said light rain was witnessed in many areas. The dust storm pushed the temperature down by a few notches on what was a sultry day, bringing much needed relief to the citizens.

The India Meteorological Department (Met) also predicted that the wind speed will go upto 70 to 80 Kmph. "Dust storm or thunderstorm accompanied with light rain and squall with wind speed upto 70 to 80 kmph would occur over Delhi and NCR during next 3 hours," IMD's forecast said.

According to news reports, 18 flights were diverted due to thunderstorm and rain in Delhi. Flight operations were also affected at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). The Met department had issued warnings, predicting rains later in the day (Saturday).

The city recorded a high of 40.5 degrees Celsius and a low of 30 degrees Celsius, according to the MeT office. The humidity levels were recorded at 71 per cent.

According to MeT, the skies will remain cloudy with the minimum and maximum temperatures likely to settle around 31 and 39 degrees Celsius.
