Put in place a plan to tackle defacement: Delhi High Court to AAP

Delhi HC has expressed its displeasure on the failure of the AAP government to comply with its order by setting up a concrete action plan to deal with the issue of defacement of properties in the city.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar pulled up the Delhi government thereby expresssing concern on the inability of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi University to conduct awareness programmes to teach people.

The court's observation while hearing a plea filed by advocate Prashant Manchanda that had sought a complete ban on the alleged defacement of public properties by the candidates for the DUSU polls.

Earlier, the bench had told the Delhi University to frame comprehensive guidelines and the authorities to launch a large scale public awareness campaign to deal with the alleged mess of defacement which was ignored by the concerned.

Terming the actions of the authorities as 'appalling', the court asked the about the ground work they have carried out to clear the mess across Delhi. However, since so satisfactory answer was given by the authorities concerned, they had to face the ire of the court.

"We see only meetings but no fruitful results. It is hopeless," the bench observed and pulled up the Delhi government for not setting out a comprehensive solution to deal with the issue.
