Puppetry Festival with contemporary touch to revive the artform

Artists from Taiwan, Iran, Afghanistan, Portugal and UK will also participate in the event apart from Indian artists. Performance by UK’s Drew Colby on February 3 and that of Taiwan’s Puppet Beings Theatre Company would be among the many highlights of the event.

Gurgaon is all set to host the 13th Ishara International Puppet Festival from February 3 to 11 at the Epicenter. The festival will entertain the people with modern and traditional form of puppetry of all kinds.

Artists from Taiwan, Iran, Afghanistan, Portugal and UK will also participate in the event apart from Indian artists. Performance by UK’s Drew Colby on February 3 and that of Taiwan’s Puppet Beings Theatre Company would be among the many highlights of the event. Ishara would also organise a workshop during the event in collaboration with noted American arts consultant Carol Sterling. 

Since puppetry has lost its popularity with other modern n advance forms of creative art, the artists all over the world are trying to revive the art. Artists are trying to add a contemporary touch to the art by adapting traditional folk tales based on modern themes. Dadi Pudumjee, Founder of The Ishara Puppet Theatre Trust talking to iamin said that the survival challenges are not just in India but across the world and this festival will try to regain that lost interest in this art form. 

Since its launch in 2001, the festival has been bringing together puppeteers, artists and performers from around the globe to celebrate storytelling through this art form. Over 100 international puppetry companies have so far participated in the festival from countries including Japan, Taiwan, UK, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Israel, Iran Australia and USA.
