While enforcing Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, North Corporation Mayor Preety Agarwal on Monday appealed to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and residents in her jurisdiction to dispose the waste on the own if they generate waste above 100 kilos in a day.
The move comes as part of the recently launched 'Swachta hi Sewa' campaign by the BJP government. The campaign will continue till October 2. Agarwal said bulk waste generators will now be responsible for segregating and disposing waste generated by them, as per the new Rules. Besides, all gated communities and institutions, with more than 5000 square metre area, were being appealed to segregate and dispose of their waste themselves as per the rules.
The Mayor also made an appeal not to use or possess or sell polythene bags of less than 50 microns as per NGT order. She also asked the zonal offices to seize the polythene bags which are not under permissible rules.
Agarwal said the body will focus especially on public places, markets, crossings, roundabouts and roads. Participation of citizens, including children, is an important part of the campaign. "Special focus will be given to cleaning areas around Old Delhi Railway Station, New Delhi Railway Station, bus stands, metro stations and other public places. A day would be dedicated for cleaning all municipal school buildings and another day for cleaning around Fatehpuri Masjid, Jain Lal Mandir, Gauri Shankar Mandir, Budhist Centre and Chandni Chowk Gurudwara," said Agarwal.
