Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram hospital in Delhi, after being diagnosed with dengue.

According to Dr DS Rana, Chairman (Board of Management) of the hospital, Priyanka was suffering from fever and was admitted in the hospital on August 23. "She has been diagnosed with dengue and is recovering," he said.

With 161 new cases reported in the past week, 325 people have been affected by the disease in Delhi this year, twice the number in the same period in 2016 (162). In 2016, there were 4,431 cases of dengue and 10 deaths.

In 2016, Delhi witnessed a chikungunya outbreak, recording 7,760 cases. This year too, 194 cases have been reported so far.

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal had visited GB Pant and Lok Nayak hospital and the Guru Nanak Eye Centre to monitor existing health facilities. During the discussion, the medical superintendents of hospitals apprised the L-G about the problems being faced such as shortage of staff, equipment, traffic problems and encroachment of hospital land, particularly in the vicinity of the Guru Nanak Eye Centre.
