NCRB data shows that 42 crimes against women, 11 kidnappings, and 5 rapes were reported every day last year

The national Capital has the dubious distinction of coming first in the country when it comes to crimes against women.
Statistics show just how much the crime graph has risen in crimes against women. According to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Thursday, in all, the Capital witnessed 15,310 crimes against women in 2016, out of which 3,891 were abductions, 2,155 rapes, 4,165 cases of assault and 797 cases of sexual harassment. This also included 162 dowry deaths and 3,879 incidents of cruelty by husband or relatives.
In comparison, the total number of cases of crimes committed against women during 2015 and 2014 were 17,222 and 15,319 respectively.
The Capital also led other metropolitan cities when it comes to crimes against women every day. In 2016, on average, 42 crimes against women were reported daily. These included 10 incidents of cruelty by husband or relatives, 11 kidnapping or abductions, five rapes and 11 assaults every day, on an average.
Most alarmingly, Delhi has the worst record of acid attacks with 18 such cases reported in 2016, leaving 21 victims affected.
Kolkata only reported two and Ahmedabad three victims of acid attacks. Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai reported no such cases, the data said.
Delhi also topped the list of metropolitan cities witnessing the highest number of cases of cruelty against women by their husband or relatives, which was 3,645. Victims of kidnapping and abduction were also highest with 3,601 cases.
Of the total 2,155 victims of rape — 55 were below the age of six, 116 were aged between six and 12 years and 294 victims were above 12 years but younger than 16 years. It also revealed that out of total 2,155 cases of rape reported in Delhi, 2,078 victims and the accused were known to each other.
