The Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) have written to the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) asking them to deploy traffic marshals, view cutter, CCTV cameras on the Signature Bridge as a measure to prevent accidents. The Delhi Police has so far issued over 1,700 challans out of which 242 were for improper parking.

Anil Mittal, Additional PRO said four Zonal Officers, three Head Constables and four Constables have been deployed on the bridge in the morning for a period of two hours. "Thirteen challans for improper parking, seven for one way violation, 74 for riding without helmet, six for triple riding and others were issued on Saturday," said Mittal.

The Signature Bridge — which was inaugurated on November 4 and built with an aim to decongest traffic jams and bridge the gap between North and North-East Delhi — has come in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. With no speed breakers, sign boards and many sharp turns, the bridge has claimed three lives since its inauguration.

Police officers deployed on the bridge said that they ask people not to stop and click photos. "We ask them not to click pictures and park on the sides. They agree in our presence, move ahead and again park on the sides where there are no personnel," said a police officer.

On the other hand, the traffic police said that they have so far written four letters to the Executive Engineer at the DTTDC requesting action to prevent accidents and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

On November 13, A Koan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Range) wrote to the Executive Engineer asking to install view cutters at the bridge. Another letter written on the same day read that speed calming measures such as rumble strips with cat eye, cautionary signboards must be installed at strategic points to avoid accidents.

"The bridge is attracting a large number of people due to its unique style. Since the day of its opening, the general public and motorists are visiting it as if it were a picnic spot. They are parking and halting their vehicles on the bridge and clicking pictures and selfies. This act is causing obstruction in the smooth flow of traffic and it is unsafe for such people who are taking selfies by climbing, hanging at the signature bridge. Hence it is requested that view cutters be installed at the earliest for providing physical security of visitors and to reduce the incentives of taking selfies by risking their lives," read the letter.

Three other letters dated November 15 were also addressed to the Executive Engineer asking for CCTV cameras and traffic marshals.
