Polling for the municipal elections had to be postponed in two wards — Maujpur in east Delhi and Sarai Pipal in north Delhi — after the death of their candidates. Both of them belonged to the Samajwadi Party.

"Elections in two wards have been postponed. Polling in Maujpur will be held on May 14 and it will take place in Sarai Pipal on May 21," a senior Delhi State Election Commission official said.

"Both of them were aged between 40 and 45 years. While the Maujpur candidate died a natural death, the Sarai Pipal candidate died of shock," a senior police official said.

Polling in 270 wards of the north, south, and east municipal corporations took place on Sunday and the results will be declared on Wednesday.
