With the war of wards heating up, political parties are taking the fight for the civic polls online. The Bhartiya Janata Party, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party volunteers have all set up a dedicated war room. Residents are sharing their problems on social networking websites and are getting a swift response from the parties.

Ritika Gupta, a resident of east Delhi's Mayur Vihar said, "I have shared my story on AAP's Twitter handle showing how my electricity bill has been slashed from of Rs 882 to Rs 490. Some of my friends have also shared their bijli and paani stories on AAP's Twitter page."

Keeping pace with the ongoing social media campaigns of the BJP and Congress, the AAP has also maintained an aggressive online presence. Among all social media platforms, the AAP's Twitter page is a hit among residents.

In a bid to attract voters' attention and attack the opposition, the AAP has been using interesting hashtags like #DelhiSaysNoToHouseTax, #Jhaadu4MCD and #BJPKoCongPasandHai in most of its Twitter posts.

"The online presence of political parties during the election campaign helps us to get our problems solved immediately. I had posted about the garbage lying outside our house to which the BJP workers came and cleaned the mess," said Vishal Singh, a resident of west Delhi.

The party has also launched a Twitter campaign #MyStoryBijliPaaniSaving inviting Delhiites to share photos of their electricity and water bills.

"The idea behind the campaign is to highlight stories of how people have saved money on electricity and water bills in the past two years of the AAP government," said a senior party official.

"We have an additional set up at every level. There are 280 mandals and 14 districts (lowest unit of the party) which are engaging in the online war. There are many volunteers who are willing to work for the party. We have more than 700 volunteers. Special hashtags like #DelhiwithBJP are constantly used with the posts on Twitter and Facebook," said Sumit Bhasin, head of BJP's IT cell.

The Delhi Congress Facebook Page www.facebook.com/incdelhi has seen a three-fold jump in the last two weeks and it's reaching almost 1.5 lakh people in Delhi itself.

"Targeted posts in Punjabi, Bhojpuri and other languages are being posted since Delhi is a cosmopolitan city and people from different states reside in it. Constant updates of candidate events like road shows — Dilli Kee Baat, Dilli Ke Saath and other events are being updated," said Gaurav Bandhi, Convener of DPCC IT cell.

Similarly, the Twitter Page www.twitter.com/delhipcc is constantly uploading specific videos of Congress' vision for the civic polls, based on its roadmap for sanitation, fiscal management and primary education and health.

"We try to upload all the posts with certain hashtags to ensure the issues are read and followed by the general public.

Hashtags such as #CongressJeetegiMCD, #MakenExposesAAP, #Maken_Siddhu_RoadShow are being used," he added.
