The Delhi Police Control Room (PCR) van and the police officials stood as mute spectators as a group of men repeatedly attacked a woman and her family members in the Rohini area of Delhi on November 10.

The family had even called up the police for help. In the CCTV footage, a group of men is seen attacking the women and her family with hockey sticks and lathis. The Delhi Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC.

In her complaint, the 40-year old woman told the police that she was sitting outside her house along with her family and friends when a man identified as Naveen who stays in the adjacent house started abusing them. The ladies were planning for the Chhath festival. However, owing to the injuries the family could not celebrate the festival

"He just didn't abuse me but also my family. He said things like our men should keep us in control. When I asked him to stop abusing and mind his own business he picked up a flower pot and threw it down. I fell unconscious after that," said the 40-year old victim.

The victim sustained seven stitches on her head, fractures and swelling in various parts of the body. The family members immediately called up the police but instead of helping them they asked them to run away.

"The goons came with sticks to attack my son and family members in front of the cops. I asked them for help but they said bhaago, hum do hain kya kar lenge (Run, we are just two officers what can we do)," she said. Even a woman cop who was present at the spot sat inside the van and quietly watched the whole thing.

Naveen carries out illegal activities including a gambling racket. He has cases registered against him at other police stations as well. "This is not the first time that police have come here. Earlier other residents have called too," said a family member of the victim.

SK Gautam, Special Commissioner of Police (Operations) said "We are looking into the matter. The inquiry is being conducted."
