A high voltage drama was witnessed on the roads of Noida following the encounter of 27-year-old wanted criminal Sumit Gurjar who was shot dead in an encounter in Greater Noida later Tuesday night.

Family members of the criminal Sumit Gurjar, staged a protest on Mahamaya Flyover on Wednesday, alleging the Gautam Buddha Nagar cops carried out a fake encounter.

Mahamaya flyover is an important surface link that connects Noida with parts of South Delhi. So the protest led to chock-a-block traffic with vehicles all the way up to Noida and Greater Noida Expressway.

The family has arrived in city around 10pm from their native place Baghpat to have the last glimpse of Gurjar, whose body had been kept at mortuary in Sector 94 but refused to take it.

Later, they then moved to the Mahamaya Flyover and blocked the traffic movement of vehicles from Noida to Delhi. In the backdrop of the traffic jam, police teams from Sector 39, Sector 20 and Expressway police stations swung into action along with traffic personnel to divert the traffic.

While protesting, Manveer Singh Gurjar, Sumeet's uncle, alleged the encounter by police was staged.

"Sumit was in the market when a police team picked him up from there. Someone told us about it and we went to the local police station and feigned ignorance about it. We had no clue about where he had gone and why police took him into custody," he said.

He said that later following day they were informed that the Noida police has taken him into custody.

"We had approached the Noida police and informed the senior police officers about the illegal detention of Sumit Gurjar. The police officers did not bother to take the matter seriously,"

It was only when television broke the news that the family knew about the encounter.

"We have promised a fair probe into the matter to the family. But we have all the evidences against him," said Love Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar.
