A close aide of Muneer, the main accused who killed NIA Deputy Superintendent Tanzeel Ahmed in 2016, was arrested on Tuesday after a robbery planned at a mobile phone store was foiled by a police team in Shahadra. One of his associates was also arrested and arms were recovered from them.

The accused were identified as Farhan Akhtar (27) and Nadeem alias Adhar (25), both from Bijnor and neighbours of Muneer. Loaded country-made pistols and an automatic pistol were recovered from them along with a two-wheeler.

According to senior police officers, constables Arvind and Kapil were patrolling in the Geeta Colony area on Tuesday. DCP Shahadra, Nupur Prasad said, the police personnel noticed two suspicious men wearing helmets waiting on a bike. "They were intercepted and asked for the documents. Two loaded arms, a 7.65 mm semi-automatic pistol and a country-made pistol of .315 bore were recovered from their possession," Prasad said.

"Probe revealed that they belong to the Muneer gang and were also involved in a number of robbery and snatching cases. The accused said that they had come to rob cash from a mobile phone showroom, but due to the alertness and presence of cops, the incident was averted," the DCP said.

In another incident on Tuesday, constable Sachin, who is posted at the Geeta Colony police station, was patrolling on Pusta Road. He noticed two suspicious men with a two-wheeler that had a UP registration number plate and intercepted them. On seeing the cop, the men tried to flee but the constable overpowered one of them, while the other managed to escape. During enquiry, the man was identified as Shivam Tiwari. A loaded .32 bore pistol was recovered, the DCP said.
