Police arrest woman for shoplifting

Police arrested a sexagenarian who had turned kleptomaniac and started lifting things from shops in North-West Delhi area to fund herself. The accused had earlier roped in her daughter and later on her minor grand-daughter before she was caught by the police.

The accused woman (66) had left her first husband and then re-married another man after which things were not smooth for her. She then left him as well and got into the habit of going for shopping and lifting things. Initially, she roped in her daughter (35) and managed to escape the police but her daughter was later arrested for her involvement in two theft cases. Her daughter was released on bail in December. On the day of the incident, the woman decided to go out shopping for jewellery and took her grand-daughter (13) along. They were checking the jewellery when she picked up the earrings which were shown to her. The same was corroborated in the CCTV footage's installed at the jewellery store. They were later traced and apprehended by the police. Police investigations revealed that the family was living happily earlier, however, after the woman's husband left, her financial condition was not the same. It was the first time that she took her grand-daughter along when she was caught. "A team led by Anil Chauhan, SHO Mukherjee Nagar traced the victims. The minor underwent counseling and was sent to a JJ home." said Aslam Khan, DCP, North-West.
