Phone theft racket busted, two arrested by Delhi police

Two men involved in the inter-state supply of stolen mobiles have been arrested by the Delhi police, from Dwarka district. The accused were nabbed when they reached the spot to procure stolen mobile phones from the snatchers operating in Dwarka and outer districts of New Delhi. 141 mobile phones have been recovered from the accused.

The accused identified as Dheeraj Bansari (36) and Vinay Talreja (30) used to visit Delhi once in every 15-20 days to procure stolen mobile phones from Gaffar market, Karol Bagh market and a few areas of Dwarka. According to the police, the accused would change the IMEI numbers of the mobile phones and sell them in Indore.

"We had received information about two men actively purchasing stolen mobile phones from the snatchers and pickpocketers in the city. We had deployed teams in their pursuit," said Anto Alphonse, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka.

Later, the team received information about an inter-state gang involved in mobile theft coming to sector 13 metro of Dwarka on Wednesday to trade the stolen mobiles.

During the raid, one of the parties were successful in escaping. Bansari and Talreja, who were caught red-handed, admitted their involvement in the crime.

The team recovered 141 mobile phones, out of which 21 mobile phones were registered as stolen in different police stations of the city and its neighboring states.

"An on spot checking revealed that accused were carrying 141 stolen mobile phones, which they had procured from Gaffar Market and Karol Bagh market. We are searching for the gang with which the duo had come to strike a deal with," added Alphonse.

Both accused are school dropouts and own mobile shops in Dollar market in Indore.
