In yet another case proving that a dog is a man’s best friend, a faithful pet attacked a thief who had come to rob a house in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area.

The incident took place on Tuesday night when accused Ram Rahish, a resident of Kashganj in Uttar Pradesh (UP), sneaked on to the first floor of a three-storey building, where Sumit Kumar Chouhan lives with his family.

Chouhan’s daughter Kamakshi was studying when she noticed Rahish. She immediately raised an alarm. Just then, five-year-old canine Milo attacked the accused and threw him on the floor.

“We were watching television when we heard our daughter scream. Our dog Milo started barking, attacked the accused, threw him on the floor, and then climbed on top of him so that he could not escape,” Chouhan said.

According to the complaint, the ground floor of the house is occupied by Chouhan’s parents, while his brother’s family lives on the second floor. “I don’t know how the man was able to sneak in when there is another dog, Rocky, on the ground floor. Rocky, though, is 16 years old now. He can hardly hear or see properly and is mostly inactive. My parents and my nephew were also watching television after dinner and did not notice the thief,” the complainant said.

An FIR was registered at the Uttam Nagar police station following the incident and the accused was sent in to 14 days’ police custody.

Heaping praises on the dog, Chouhan said: “I can’t express the happiness and the pride that I am feeling right now. I rescued Milo’s mother from a drain six years ago and he was born in front of me. He has repaid all his loan by saving me and my family.”

The footage from CCTV cameras in the premises was also given to the police. Chouhan added that the thief might not have been aware of the cameras.
