Party drugs worth crores found in DVD sets Drugs were meant for a rave party in the Capital

After smuggling drugs through airports and shipments, smugglers have found an altogether new way of transporting narcotics.

Customs officials at the foreign post office were left puzzled when a parcel of DVDs were found containing party drugs worth crores. Officials suspect that the DVDs were apparently to be delivered for a rave party at various farmhouses of the Capital. Smuggling drugs by post is the latest and unique modus operandi which the Customs have come across, senior officers said.

The smuggling came to the fore last week when the parcel containing 20 sets of DVDs arrived at the foreign post office and was held for scanning by a Customs official after he received a tip-off.

Acting on the information the parcel was opened and some powdered substance was found stashed in these DVD cases. The powder, suspected to be either Catamine or Brown Sugar, which are usually used in rave parties, has been sent to lab for testing, an officer said.

"The narcotics substance recovered from DVD cases is about two kilograms and its estimated market value in international markets would be in several crores. After receiving a tip-off, our men were scanning for suspected articles. The parcel was bound for Australia and further investigations to find out its source and recipient are being carried out," said SR Baruah, Commissioner Customs, Air Cargo.

Sources said that the sender's address on the parcel was found to be fictitious and the same is expected for the receiver's as well. They added that at times, these parcels are diverted midway to avoid suspicion and are delivered to different addresses.
