Art lovers in the Capital are in for a treat for a multi-art, multi-venue festival Raza Utsav, being organised to pay homage to famous art Sayed Haider Raza on his 96th birth anniversary. On till 26 February, it is a potpourri of painting exhibitions, musicals, recitals among other forms of art, all with the sole aim of celebrating Indian art in all its glory, and keeping Raza’s legacy alive.

In its first edition, Raza Utsav offers a platform that showcases maestros while nurturing new talent. It features multi-cultural events like art shows, poetry readings, performance by popular classical musicians, dance performances, theatre presentation, film screenings over a period of one month at different places across Delhi.

One such event is Gandhi In Raza, an exhibition of paintings by Raza inspired by his admiration for the Father of the Nation. It is a collection of a series of 10 paintings by the painter to Gandhi whose multilingualism and multi-faith approach to life had a deep impact on him. Delhi-based Raza Foundation that is organising the Utsav is also holding the six edition of month-long series, Aarambh, where the audience will be regaled with Hindustani vocal by Aditya Khandwe, and a Bharatnatyam recital by Arohi Munshi at Triveni Kala Sangam and Alliance Francaise.

A festival of Hindi poetry with masters of the craft is also part of the month-long series of programmes. Kavi Samvaya will showcase contemporary Hindi poetry which has a plurality of vision, style, theme, and craft. These works are creations of poets belonging to multiple generations and parts of India.

Hindi poet and managing trustee of the foundation Ashok Vajpeyi elaborated on the event, “A rich and varied fare, Raza Utsav is aimed at creating a ‘rasik sampradaya’ which would be vulnerable to many arts and poetry.
The late Raza himself was such a ‘rasik’ and it would be appropriate to carry this legacy forward by offering adequate opportunities for it to grow and flourish.”
