The Delhi Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly duping a man on the pretext of giving him a two-and-a-half acre of agriculture land at the Jhatikra village in Najafgarh for the sum of Rs 1.25 crore on Thursday.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Pankaj Dayal, who along with his three partners identified as Pankaj Kumar Aggarwal, Parvinder Singh and Kapil Tyagi, allegedly cheated the victim who is a prominent writer.

According to the statement filed by the victim, the four accused promised to give 2.5 acres of agricultural land in Najafgarh. Despite several attempts to get the land, the accused did not respond and never provided the land and did not even return the money," said Milind Dumbere, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest).

The Police said, based on the information received, the accused was followed and on May 14 he was nabbed from a hotel in Nehru Place.

"During the investigation, it was revealed that Dayal and his accomplices owned a construction company by the name of Realtech Construction. They used to lure rich investors of south Delhi," said Dumbere.

The arrested accused, along with his partners, lured the people based on false documents, approvals and title deeds. They duped various prominent investors from Delhi to part with their savings with the intention of never returning the money.

"They used to provide special offers and offer the victims land at a lower price and further seek advances and loans with the prospect of great returns to the investors and lenders. They have as many as 20 fake companies running under this scam," said Dumbere.

The accused has several FIRs pending against him across Delhi and other states and has only appeared once in a certain case and has been continuously evading his appearance before the court, he said. Several non-bailable warrants have been issued against him.
