One dead, 9 hurt after tourist vehicle hits divider at Noida

Police said that the bus was carrying around 50 people while prima facie it appears that the driver, who is on the run, might have dozed off while driving.

A 12-year-old girl died while nine others were injured after the bus they were travelling in hit the divider and toppled on the other side on Mahamaya road in Noida on Monday morning. Some victim's are undergoing treatment at the district hospital in Noida while some have been referred to Delhi. Police said that the bus was carrying around 50 people while prima facie it appears that the driver, who is on the run, might have dozed off while driving.

On further explaining the details a senior police officer said that the bus was carrying nearly 50 tourists from Maharashtra, Kolkata and Nepal. "The accident took place just ahead of the flyover around 2 am. Acting on the information a police team dispatched to the scene and reduce operation took place. It seems that the driver dozed off behind the wheel and crashed into the divider after which resulted the bus overturned," said Amit Kumar Singh, station house officer, sector 39 police station.

Police officials said that Khansha Mohammad Qalim, a resident of Jalgaon, Maharashtra, died on the spot. Her injuries were severe and when taken to the district hospital with the other injured, she was declared brought dead. Her parents are also sustained severe injuries and recuperating.

Police officials further said that the driver and conductor of the bus are absconding at the moment. "When the police team first reached the spot, the driver and conductor had already fled. So case has been registered in this case yet as no official complaint was filed. We will take the necessary actions once the complaint is filed.

Four of the patients who were in a critical condition were referred to the higher centres in Delhi, said district hospital authorities. "Five people are currently admitted here and undergoing treatment. There were other injured people as well who left after receiving basic first aid," said a district hospital doctor.

The tourists said that most of them were asleep at the time of the accident owing to the late hour. "We had come to Delhi on 14th. We were coming back from visiting Agra, Mathura and Vrandavan and were supposed to go back to Kolkata on Monday afternoon. The bus had started from Agra around 10 pm," said Anand, an occupant.
