Old World Theatre Festival returns to Capital

Drama lovers can look forward to mosaic of plays as Old World Theatre Festival returns to the capital with its 16th edition, from October 6 to October 14. To be staged at India Habitat Centre, the 10-day event would bring some of the best acts in thriller, romance, suspense coupled with a theatre workshop.

The festival returns with an enviable line up of acclaimed productions from the best of 2016, riding on names like Faezeh Jalali's 'Shikhandi', Atul Kumar's 'Khwab Sa', Purva Naresh's 'Bandish', Rajat Kapur's 'Glass Menagerie', Kumud Mishra's 'D for Dumprapan', Manav Kaul's 'Chuhal' etc to treat the city. Apart from over a week of theatrical activity, a theatre workshop series titled Cyclorama is also part of the itinerary.

Talking to DNA, Vidyun Singh, Director Programmes, Habitat World, IHC said, "With sessions ranging from acting to light design, scripting, playing with material to the use of music and song, children's theatre and more, participants have the option to attend either specific sessions or go for the complete workshop calendar. The resources persons who will be leading the sessions are also drawn from theatre artistes and technicians performing for this edition, making the festival a holistic educational and transformative space for the serious theatre lover and the collegiate theatre societies in the city." She added that this kind of a continuum of performance, exchange of ideas and questioning are vital to grow in the field.

This festival also occasions the 20th anniversary of Rage Productions, and is joining the group in celebrating their tour de force by bringing one of their longest running plays till date 'Love Letters' (directed by AR Gurney) and one of their most recent productions Glass Menagerie (directed by Rajit Kapur) together.
