Thousands of Ola and Uber cabs will stay off the roads in Delhi as part of the complete shutdown by the driver unions today.

The move comes a day after their Mumbai counterparts ended the strike.

As the national capital braces for chaotic Friday, here are 10 major points from this story:

1: The unions are protesting against poor working conditions,

2: Ola and Uber drivers are demanding better compensation, better verification and streamlining of shared duties.

3: ‘We are carrying out a large scale protest against the aggregators as they are paying one-third of the promised amount to the drivers. Hence, to press our demands further, the union has decided to stop operations temporarily for 24 hours,’ Kamaljeet Gill, chief of Sarvodaya Drivers Association, was quoted as saying by The Hindustan Times.

4: However, both Ola and Uber maintain that everything is fine at their end. ‘We have heard about the strike by driver partners in Delhi from media reports. As of now, it is business as usual for us in Delhi-NCR,’ an Ola spokesperson  was quoted as saying.

5: The Uber statement also read, ‘There is no disruption to the service in Delhi-NCR, at this point. We are committed to serving the city, ensuring driver-partners can continue to access a stable income while giving riders a convenient, reliable option to get around Delhi-NCR.’

6: Last time, Ola and Uber went a strike in Delhi on April 17. Thousands of Ola and Uber drivers had switched off their apps and stayed off the roads in a one-day strike.

7: On Thursday, the cabbies in Mumbai had called off their strike. Drivers of app-based cab service Uber called off their four-day-old strike, the transport wing of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which spearheaded the stir, said.

8: A similar strike by drivers of Ola, another popular ride-hailing app, was called off in Mumbai on Wednesday.

9: MNS, in a statement here this evening, said the Uber management, during their talks with the police and the wing's representatives had given a written commitment on meeting the various demands. These include a relook at drivers blacklisted by the taxi aggregator and putting up stickers in Marathi on Uber cabs, the statement said.

10: On March 19, drivers of Uber and Ola went on an indefinite strike to protest "low profit margins".It is estimated that over 45,000 app-based cabs operate in the financial capital alone.
