The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested another accused, allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Dr Srikant Goud, 29, from Meerut on Tuesday morning.
Dr Goud was kidnapped from Preet Vihar in East Delhi earlier this month.
According to the STF, the accused has been identified as Vivek Motla, one of the main accused in the case. Motla was arrested from Bhaisali bus stand in Meerut.
"We had been continuously on the lookout for him and we got a tipoff from a local source stating that Motla would be travelling to Haridwar from Meerut late on Tuesday night," said Alok Priyadarshi, Additional SP (West) STF.
A team of 15 personnel from the STF team, with the help of the local Meerut police, was formed and they surrounded the bus stand.
"He arrived at the bus stand around 5 am and was waiting for the bus. Our personnel then nabbed him outside the stand," Priyadarshi added
During interrogation, Motla confessed to his involvement in the abduction of the doctor, in the Ola cab. Police have recovered a 12 bore country made pistol with a live cartridge from his possession.
On July 6, after having dinner at the Radisson Blu in Kaushambi, Dr Goud's friends dropped him at the Preet Vihar Metro station. He, then booked an Ola cab from there to go to Gautam Nagar.
On July 7, when Dr Goud did not report for work, one of his friends, Hemant, called him but someone else answered. Failing to trace him, Hemant then lodged a complaint.
In the meantime, the kidnappers made a call from Dr Goud's mobile phone to an Ola customer care number and asked for the CEO. They said they had kidnapped a man and wanted Rs 5 crore for his release.
It took police 13 days and a team of over 200 policemen to bring the doctor back safe and alive. On 19 July, four men were arrested.
