Police have arrested the husband of a nurse working at LNJP hospital, who used to pose as an officer of the CBI or a senior government officer and then dupe women of lakhs on the pretext of providing them jobs in foreign countries. The couple, who belong to Kerala, used to specially target people from the state and have previously been involved in eight such cases.

The man has been identified as Jojo Mathew, 50 and his wife as Joemol Mathew, who is working in Radiology Department of LNJP hospital since 1994. According to the police, the couple used to live in government accommodation at the MAMC campus allotted to Jeomol.

"Jojo used to target the innocent women from Kerala who were in search of a job or came to Delhi Nursing Council for registration of nursing degree. He persuaded them by impersonating as an officer of the CBI or posing as a government officer working at Delhi Nursing Council. He used to pretend that he has good relations with other officers and then used to invite the targets at his government accommodation in MAMC campus where his wife Jeomol presented herself in staff nurse uniform to trap the targets," said a senior police officer.

Police said that the forgery came to fore when Shinimol P George a resident of Mayur Vihar reported that in July 2015, she had gone to Delhi Nursing Council where she met Jojo Mathew who introduced himself as an LNJP employee.
