Members of the National Students’ Union of India on Wednesday protested against the Delhi University administration for failing to disqualify newly-elected students’ union president Ankiv Basoya over alleged fake degree.

The party lodged a complaint in the matter and also submitted a memorandum to DU vice-chancellor, demanding legal action against Basoya apart from sacking him from the post of DUSU president.

Saimon Farooqui, the media in-charge of NSUI, commenting on the alleged fake degree submitted by Basoya, said, “The results of DUSU elections, rather unexpectedly, were in the favor of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, with the party occupying three official positions. However, a recent revelation of the dualism of the ABVP has hampered the credibility of the elected representatives further.”

“The students’ union is supposed to be a representative body functioning with transparency and accountability. Such manipulations and subversions are condemnable. The NSUI demands immediate action on the matter. The ABVP has deceived the student fraternity,” the party said in a statement on Wednesday.

THE VENUE

NSUI held the protests at Delhi University’s Arts faculty, where scores of the party’s supporters raised slogans against ABVP and DU authorities.
